Give us your f**king biscuits now

by Ted Hoffman

Live Aid was a well meaning attempt to truck much needed supplies of biscuits to those unlucky enough to be living under the rubbish socialist dictatorship of Ethiopia during a famine.

A change of tack and 20 years gave us Live 8, a well meaning attempt to get rich countries governments to cut African debt and implement a series of often contradictory demands about trade laws.

Coldplay's chief economist Chris Martin told the Hyde Park crowd that 'People who are cynical are stupid'. I wish the project well, but I am a cynic and think it is highly likely that despite Pink Floyd's best efforts 20 years from now Africa will still be crap, quite possibly even more crap than it is now. Though I hope not.
